About this Collection
I am an occasional freelance writer on classical music and have written for Classic Recordings Quarterly (CRQ) as well as International Piano. In addition, I have been a collector for over 30 years and a dealer for 20 years.
This collection was amassed during the last 20 years and is being sold as a single lot. CD and LP lots are quite common on eBay, of course, but I do believe this one to be quite special.
Aside as a gift for a discerning music lover, this collection could also form the cornerstone of a music library for a conservatory, orchestra, or other musical organization. Most of the great artist from the last century are represented here - a cornucopia of musical riches that could provide a lifetime's study on the art of performance and interpretation. It includes the following:
> A library of books on music - biographies, reference books, discographies - many out-of-print
> A large number of CDs (nearly all sealed) on the finest labels - there is no junk whatsoever
> A large number of LPs (again, most sealed and unplayed)
All titles come from my personal collection and have been extremely well cared for.
There is a heavy emphasis on pianists and conductors, followed by chamber music and violinists. There is very little opera or vocal titles. Among the CD highlights are:
> Richter Authorized Edition - 21CD box set on Philips (sealed)
> Rubinstein Collection - 94CD box set on RCA (unplayed and with the accompanying book and box)
> Complete RCA Album Collections - several of the big box sets in this series (all sealed)
> Mozart Edition 225 - 200CD box set on Decca (sealed)
> Westminster Legacy Collector's Edition - 40CD box set on Westminster/DG (sealed)
There are historical issues on labels such as Arbiter, APR, Archiphon, Testament, Pearl, Biddulph, Dutton, EMI. There are also quite a few Japan only issues on Denon, Green Door, EMI-Toshiba, and other labels. And there are many long-gone original issues on Decca, Philips, DG, EMI, CBS Masterworks, etc.
These are the original issues. There are no club copies or cut-outs in this lot. All CDs were made in the European Union, the USA, or Japan. All were purchased in the European Union, the USA, or Japan (online via HMV Japan). There are no pirate copies, CD-R’s, or counterfeit CDs in the lot. None.
Nearly all are in MINT condition. When a grading falls to EX or VG that refers to minor creasing, indentations, or aging to the slipcase or booklet; the CDs themselves are free to scratches and play perfectly.
Numerous titles included herein would sell at auction for a significantly higher amount than their original retail price, and a great many are simply no longer available and rate as true collector’s items. It would take a tremendous amount of time, searching, expense, and sheer luck to compile all of these titles.
The collection could easily be expanded with items from my personal collection, which includes many rarities, and in this case the price would increase. If a perspective buyer was not interested in the books, or not in the CDs, etc., the price can be negotiated. The buyer pays for shipping and any relevant customs duties. But, again, the final price is negotiable.
